AeroMix — Multi-Crew Mixed-Reality Flight Simulator

What is AeroMix? AeroMix is FSDC Aerosolutions’ multi-crew mixed-reality flight simulator family. A real cockpit shell with operating instruments and controls is paired with head-mounted-display photoreal visuals, so two or more crew can train procedures, CRM and emergencies together while still interacting with real switches and levers. Available for the Super Mushshak, Enstrom 280-FX and custom airframes, with optional 6-DOF motion and a full Instructor Operating Station.

How AeroMix works

AeroMix is built around four integrated subsystems:

  1. Real cockpit shell. A 1:1 replica of the target aircraft cockpit — functioning instruments, switches, throttle quadrant, flight controls and seating.
  2. HMD-based mixed-reality visuals. Each crew member wears a head-mounted display that renders the photoreal outside world while passing through the real cockpit. The result: pilots see their real hands on real controls and a virtual sky, terrain, traffic and weather around them.
  3. Optional 6-DOF motion platform. An electric motion platform can be added under the cockpit shell to deliver acceleration, attitude and turbulence cues integrated with the visual scene.
  4. Instructor Operating Station. A multi-touch console next to the cockpit lets the instructor inject failures, freeze and reposition the aircraft, manage weather and time of day, monitor flight parameters and replay sessions for debrief.

Why mixed reality instead of dome or pure VR?

Dome and collimated visual systems offer the widest fixed field of view and are the gold standard for high-end FFS-class training. They also occupy a large room and carry the cost of projectors, screens and alignment. Pure VR systems remove the dome and the cockpit, putting the pilot in a virtual environment they cannot physically touch. AeroMix sits between the two: real cockpit fidelity + virtual outside world. Pilots keep their cockpit muscle memory while the training footprint, capex and lifecycle cost are significantly lower than a dome solution.

Frequently asked questions

What is AeroMix?

AeroMix is FSDC Aerosolutions’ multi-crew mixed-reality flight simulator. A real cockpit shell is paired with HMD-based photoreal outside visuals so two or more crew can train together while interacting with real switches and instruments.

Which aircraft does AeroMix support?

Current configurations cover the Super Mushshak and Enstrom 280-FX. Additional fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms can be built to order.

How is AeroMix different from a pure VR simulator?

Pure VR replaces both the cockpit and the outside world with virtual content. AeroMix keeps the real cockpit and only replaces the outside view, preserving cockpit muscle memory and instrument scanning.

Can AeroMix be motion-enabled?

Yes — AeroMix supports integration with FSDC’s 6-DOF electric motion platform when motion cues are required. Fixed-base configurations are also available.

Does AeroMix include an Instructor Operating Station?

Yes. Every delivery includes an IOS with session control, emergency injection, weather and time-of-day control, parameter monitoring and session replay.
